Our Focus Areas
Equity, Diversity and Inclusion
EDI has been a strong focus of our work over the past 2 years, especially as early evidence emerged that the first four doctors to die on the frontline from COVID-19 were Muslim. We conducted research at the MDA which demonstrated that over 50% of doctors who died from COVID-19 during the first wave were of Muslim heritage. Notable achievements over the past 2 years includes the effective execution of these impactful initiatives, which continue to drive positive and lasting change.
The Religion Inclusion Award celebrates individuals and organisations promoting faith diversity and equity in healthcare. This initiative honours efforts to foster understanding, respect, and inclusion for people of all faiths within health services and wider society.

Islamophobia Awareness initiatives aim to educate healthcare professionals and the public about the impact of Islamophobia. Through workshops and campaigns, MDA challenges stereotypes, promotes empathy, and fosters a safer, more inclusive environment for Muslim communities.
MDA’s Faith Inclusion programs ensure that spiritual and cultural needs are recognised in healthcare settings. By advocating for equitable practices, these initiatives bridge gaps in understanding and improve patient care for diverse faith communities.
